In reaching, the task is to move the hand to a target
Article Abstract:
The results from a research conducted by Martha Flanders et al were compared with experiments dealing with arm movements. It was shown that contrary to Flanders et al';s view, motor planning is focused on movement of the hand, not the joints. Modularity is also perceived differently from being an important principle for neural control. Furthermore, the use of Flanders et al's work in trajectories is distinctively questioned.

Central spatial representations and mapping the sensorimotor interface: how early is early, how late is late, and what difference does it all make anyhow?
Article Abstract:
Martha Flanders et al's work on arm movement showed that parcellated spatial representations relate to task kinematics rather that to movement kinematics. The identification was the basis for the particular ordering of parcellated representations cited in Flanders et al's article. Target location is expected to come before motor error and the tectum in those cases appears to have a motor error representation.
