Practitioner review: Electroconvulsive therapy in adolescents
Article Abstract:
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is rarely used in young persons, although it is attracting increasing interest. However there is little information about its optimal use. The available knowledge of ECT in adolescents is summarized and medical and information about its optimal use is provided. There have been campaigns to prohibit the use of ECT, but it is still seen as a safe and effective treatment of severe psychiatric disorders in adolescents and adults. However new physical treatments are emerging, such as trans-cranial magnetic stimulation, which are less stigmatizing.

Inter-rater reliability of Global Assessment of Functioning in a clinical setting
Article Abstract:
Differences were noticed in rater agreement among the proposed Axis V version of DSM-IV and Children's Global Assessment Scale (CGAS) in four studies involving 162 adolescent and child patients and 20 clinicians. While this result tallied with earlier versions of Axis V, it was less than that reported for the CGAS. There was no increase in inter-rater reliability when anchor points were described in greater detail and rating current and previous functioning did not lead to differences in agreement.

A wide range of lifetime and present psychological disorders in female juvenile offenders are documented and the relations between mental health status and socio-demographic, family and trauma variables are examined. The examination revealed high prevalence of psychopathological disorders amongst offenders than on non-offenders with a strong association with offender status.
