Prospective childhood predictors of deviant peer affiliatations in adolescence
Article Abstract:
Peer affiliation among adolescents is linked to substance abuse patterns and antisocial behavior. There has been less research on factors that might predispose adolescents to form relationships with peers who are delinquent or abuse substances. A study using parental and peer report has limitations but shows a wide range of factors that could predispose children to forming relationships with deviant peers. These factors include family dysfunction, socioeconomic disadvantage, and parents involved in substance abuse.

Early conduct problems and later life opportunities
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the extent to which children with early-onset conduct problems are at risk of future educational under-attainment or unemployment. A number of measures were used to evaluate the extent of associations between early conduct concerns and life opportunity outcomes. Results indicated that children who developed conduct problems in middle childhood were at increased risks of leaving school. Findings also showed that developmental processes were similar for both male and female.

Annotation: structural equation models in developmental research
Article Abstract:
Structural equation models, or covariance structure models, have become extremely popular in the analysis of developmental data, particularly on child psychology. These models are useful in the study of genetic variables affecting development, interpretation of measurements, analysis of growth trajectories and the analysis of population heterogeneity. However, problems may be encountered with the use of the models such as sample selection bias and influence of chance variation in conclusions.
