Children raised in fatherless families from infancy: family relationships and the socioemotional development of children of lesbian and single heterosexual mothers
Article Abstract:
Researchers investigated the effects on families and children of there being no father in the family from the child's infancy. They interviewed members of 113 families, 41 of which had two parents, 30 had a lesbian mother and 42 had a single heterosexual mother. The results indicated that fatherless families have a higher degree of mother-child interaction and warmth, a result which is more pronounced in lesbian mother families. The results also indicated that children of both types of fatherless family perceive themselves to be physically and cognitively inferior to children from families with fathers.

Social versus biological parenting: family functioning and the socioemotional development of children conceived by egg or sperm donation
Article Abstract:
Research carried out on families where children are not related genetically to the father or the mother has found that psychological well being among parents is greater where there is no link between mother and child. This applies to marital satisfaction among mothers and stress and anxiety among fathers. The children's psychological adjustment and the parenting quality was similar for different family types. Families having children with no genetic relationship to the mother may have a greater commitment to parenthood.

Parenting infants conceived by gamete donation
Article Abstract:
Studies of a new sample of families with children born by gamete donation replicates earlier studies that found parents of children conceived by gamete donation to be both warmer and more emotionally involved with their children than their natural conception counterparts. In contrast, the donor insemination and egg donation parents seemed to be more open towards disclosing the donor conception to the child.
