Reading problems and antisocial behaviour: developmental trends in comorbidity
Article Abstract:
The antisocial behavior of poor readers in middle childhood is due to inattentiveness and overactivity rather than directly associated with reading difficulties. Girls with reading problems have a high rate of inattentiveness and antisocial behavior, which leads to additional teacher-related problems in their teens. The rate of hyperactivity and inattentiveness decreases after middle childhood in boys, while the level of delinquency increases in the teens. Retarded readers are more prone to behavior problems than poor readers.

Maternal depressive symptoms and ratings of emotional disorder symptoms in children and adolescents
Article Abstract:
The relationship between maternal depressive symptoms and emotional disorder in children and adolescents was explored in a study using information collected from a probability sample of families with children ages 8 to 12 years. Analysis revealed a strong association between maternal depressive symptoms in girls but not in boys. However, among adolescent boys, maternal depressive symptoms were correlated with mother rating errors which suggests the possible presence of maternal bias.

School achievement and adult qualifications among adoptees: A longitudinal study
Article Abstract:
A study aimed to give further evidence on correlates of attainment amongst adoptees, based on data from the National Child Development Study (NCDS). This was expanded to late adolescence and early adulthood. Adoptees were found to perform more positively than non-adopted children in reading, mathematics and general ability tests, retaining this advantage in further adult qualifications.
