Regret and responsibility in the evaluation of decision outcomes
Article Abstract:
The theory that individuals often experience feelings of remorse or self-blame as a negative effect of bad decision-making is examined through hypothetical situations involving different individuals. The individual's sense of control and culpability for the course of action taken is examined as a factor in his or her reactions in each instance. Results revealed that decision power in particular situations was not an important influence on an individual's feelings of self-blame, remorse, or satisfaction.
