Relative effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of cooperative, competitive, and independent monetary incentive systems
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the relative effectiveness and cost-effectivenes of monetary incentive schemes in improving performance. The study analyzed cooperative, competitive and independent conditions for performance as teachers were subjected to the test. Results show that cooperative conditions exhibited the most effective and cost-effective means for enhancing incentive. However, performance levels hardly varied across all three conditions. These results imply that objective performance feedback still supercede monetary incentives.

The search for the optimum individual monetary incentive pay system: a comparison of the effects of flat pay and linear and non-linear incentive pay systems on worker productivity
Article Abstract:
A study comparing three incentive pay systems and one flat pay system revealed that the incentive pay systems all generated higher worker productivity than did the flat pay system. A negatively accelerating incentive pay system appears to be the best option for compensation system designers. The study's findings suggest that the mere existence of an incentive-based compensation plan controls worker performance more than does size of incentive.

Worth, words, and the justification of executive pay
Article Abstract:
An analysis of management compensation practices of companies reveals that shareholder profile and activity play an important role in determining the amount of justification companies give. The study reveals that companies with active and concentrated outside owners tend to cite the role of compensation consultants more and that companies will tend to concentrate more on positive aspects and downplay significant factors.
