Reliability and validity of the addiction severity index among outpatients with severe mental illness
Article Abstract:
The Addiction Severity Index is used widely in addictions research and treatments. It was administered to outpatients with severe and persistent mental disorders at a public psychiatric facility, and the internal composition of scores was lower than in previous nonpshychiatric samples. Interrater reliability was low for several severity ratings, and many scores exhibited low temporal stability. The ASI should therefore be used cautiously in patients with several mental illness.
