Sibling relationship quality from birth to adolescence: The enduring contributions of friends
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to examine continuity in sibling relationships across childhood and to evaluate the degree to which children's experiences with their friends and mothers prior to their sibling's birth predict the quality of the relationship they establish with their siblings in adolescence. The results support the hypothesis that the social competencies that young children demonstrate in their early relationships with friends may have enduring significance for their social development.

Playmates and teachers: Reciprocal and complementary interactions between siblings
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the association between siblings' reciprocal (that is, play) and complementary (that is, teaching) interactions in 70 sibling dyads. The results indicate that reciprocal and complementary types of interactions provide important contexts for development of individual differences in dyadic and individual behaviors and may afford opportunities for siblings to influence one another's development.

Sibling effects on substance use in adolescence: Social contagion and genetic relatedness
