Resting metabolic rate and diet-induced thermogenesis in restrained and unrestrained eaters
Article Abstract:
The resting metabolic rate (RMR) in restrained eaters is lower than that in unrestrained eaters. However, the value of diet-induced thermogenesis (DIT) is similar. The values of RMR and DIT are similar in weight cycling and no weight cycling restrained eaters indicating that restrained eating rather than weight cycling reduces RMR. Lower RMR in restrained eaters appears to be a result of the eating habit. Restrained eating behavior can thus be considered a method of preventing an increase in weight or becoming overweight.

Childhood sexual abuse and precursors of binge eating in an adolescent female population
Article Abstract:
Depression, body mass index and weight satisfaction influence the relationship between childhood sexual abuse and binge eating in adolescent females. Adolescent females undergoing treatment for sexual abuse show higher levels of depression, external locus of control, and lower scores of self esteem and weight satisfaction. Psychological factors such as depression and weight satisfaction are more influential than sexual abuse, and must be considered in the treatment of eating disorders.
