Siblings of children with mental retardation living at home or in residential placement
Article Abstract:
The experience of adolescent siblings of mentally ill children living at home or in residential placement was examined. A comparison was made between the siblings of 25 children with mental retardation and those of 28 children without retardation on several measures, including self-esteem, psychological adjustment and family environment. The study found no evidence supporting the assumption that that siblings of mentally ill children would experience psychological problems or related adjustment difficulties.

A new instrument to assess sibling relationships in antisocial youth: the social interaction between siblings (SIBS) interview: a research note
Article Abstract:
The Social Interaction Between Siblings (SIBS) instrument is an 87-item interview that was developed to measure the positive as well as negative dimensions of the sibling relationship that may be related to the emergence of antisocial behavior. Using a sample of 29 children with a delinquent older brother, the feasibility of SIBS and the internal consistency of its scales were demonstrated. Through an unselected sample, the test-retest reliability of the scales was found to be adequate to excellent.
