Risk factors in the adjustment of siblings of children with cancer
Article Abstract:
Behavioral adjustment is adversely affected in children whose siblings are suffering from cancer. A study on 99 children, six months post-diagnosis, shows that 24 of them have borderline or clinically significant levels of behavioral problems at home or school. Negative reactions to the illness originate from several psychosocial stress factors; such as disruption of family life, lack of social support to the family, and the siblings' perception of negative effects on interpersonal relationships in the family.

Temperament and psychopathology amongst siblings of probands with depressive and anxiety disorders
Article Abstract:
An epidemiological study shows 42% psychiatric morbidity among the siblings of probands with depressive and anxiety disorders. Comorbidity is positively correlated to high emotionality. Highly emotional siblings are more susceptible to developing separation anxiety and dysthymia than less emotional siblings. However, there is little correlation between emotionality and conduct disorders. These results suggest that emotionality and psychopathology are related in the general domain of affectivity.

Dysfunctional schemas and cognitive distortions in psychopathology: a test of the specificity hypothesis
Article Abstract:
A model of psychopathology is presented that suggests that emotional and behavioral problems are influenced by the maladaptive interpretation of events by the afflicted subject, and research focuses on how different types of cognitive distortions and dysfunctional schemas can be analyzed to differentiate between depression, anxiety, and aggression. Topics addressed include the content-specificity hypothesis which suggests that cognitive distortions may relate to specific disorders.
