Sequential analysis of marital interactions involving alcoholic, depressed, and nondepressed men
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to identify, compare and contrast the sequential interactions of alcoholics, depressed persons and their spouses as well as those couples without any diagnosed psychopathology. The study's subjects were comprised of 49 couples in which the husband was an alcoholic, 40 couples in which the husband was depressed and 42 normal couples. Results indicate that the interactions of the depressed couples had unique precedent-consequent patterns. There was similarity in that of the other two types of couples, but different from that of depressed couples.

Depressed and normal individuals differ both in selection and in perceived tonal quality of positive-negative messages
Article Abstract:
Differences between depressed and nondepressed individuals' response set to positive and negative messages were investigated. Results revealed that nondepressed individuals preferred to listen to positive messages, while depressed persons displayed no specific preference. In terms of tonal quality, nondepressed and depressed persons gave similar ratings to positive messages. Only nondepressed individuals rated the tonal quality of negative messages as poor.

Evidence of latent depressive schemas in formerly depressed individuals
Article Abstract:
A study of 60 previously depressed subjects to identify the effects of latent depressive schemas shows that the scores of the previously depressed subjects were same as the never depressed persons on 2 questionnaires addressing dysfunctional thinking. The scores of formerly depressed persons on two of the three information-processing measure questionnaires given were negatively biased.
