Social behavior and cortisol reactivity in children with fragile X syndrome
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the association between limbic-hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (L-HPA) axis reactivity and social behavior in children with fragile X syndrome (FXS). Boys and girls with FXS demonstrated more gaze aversion, task avoidance, behavioral signs of distress, and poorer vocal quality than the unaffected siblings, and significantly, cortisol activity to the task was associated with social gaze in children with FXS.

Practitioner Review: Psychopharmacology in children and adolescents with mental retardation
Article Abstract:
A review of psychotropic medications that is used to treat specific behavioral symptoms and psychiatric syndromes focusing primarily on children and adolescents is presented. Adolescents and children with mental retardation respond to various psychotropic medications in ways similar to the typically developing population but rates of response among them tend to be poorer with frequent side effects, and hence require greater monitoring.

The relation between salivary cortisol, callous-unemotional traits, and conduct problems in an adolescent non-referred sample
Article Abstract:
The relation between resting cortisol levels, callous-unemotional (CU) traits are explored and problems in a non-referred and mixed gender sample of adolescents is conducted. Consistent with prediction, male participants exhibiting elevated CU traits were uniquely characterized by low cortisol levels relative to male comparison groups.
