Some Reflections Concerning Gal'perin's Theory

Piotr Gal'perin's theory on the relationship between instruction and development is reviewed and critiqued in the context of current research in educational psychology. Although Piotr's approach calls for active learning and problem solving, it may focus too heavily on theoretical knowledge and disregard creative thinking and practical applications of knowledge.

Gal'perian Instruction in the ZPD

Russian psychologist, Piotr Gal'perin, made lasting changes in the field of educational psychology. His cognitive development theory of learning changed the nature of instruction to more fully engage the learner in activating skills that were developmentally appropriate, or within the zone of proximal development.

The work of Russian educational psychologist, Piotr Gal'perin, is analyzed in the context of the work of his mentor, Lev Vygotsky.
