Telephone-based guided self-help for binge eating disorder: a feasibility study
Article Abstract:
A feasibility study describes a new method of guided self-help for treating binge eating disorder (BED). The guided treatment involved telephone counseling of a lay therapist to women participants over a three-month period to supplement a self-help program. Results showed a marked decrease of binge eating frequency. All women participants reported high levels of satisfaction with the intervention as they commented favorably on the flexibility, accessibility, and autonomy afforded by the telephone-based administration of guidance. These imply that telephone-based guided self-help is a viable way of service delivery for some women with BED.
