Telephone counseling increases cessation rates among young adult smokers
Article Abstract:
During June 2000 - May 2001, the American Cancer Society conducted a trial of telephone counseling among more than 3,500 current smokers who were interested in quitting smoking. The results showed that 3- and 6-month quit rates among both younger and older smokers was significantly higher than those who received telephone counseling than among those who received only self-help booklets, suggesting that telephone counseling could help young smokers in quitting.

Disseminating a smokeless tobacco cessation intervention model to dental hygienists: A randomized comparison of personalized instruction and self-study methods
Article Abstract:
Two methods of disseminating an empirically validated smokeless tobacco intervention delivered during routine dental care are evaluated. The study demonstrates that an efficacious tobacco intervention for professional health care workers can be effectively disseminated using two different formats and there is a compelling need to promote the diffusion of efficacious programs in order to increase the public health impact of clinical studies.
