Test-retest reliability for false-belief tasks
Article Abstract:
A test-retest study, where children watched videotapes of stories illustrating false-belief situations, showed a developmental trend in the understanding of false beliefs. A group of 23 children with a mean age of 49.6 months participated, with retesting after 2-3 weeks. Comprehension improved, but there was poor test-retest reliability for the false belief questions. Many children correctly answered false-belief questions they had earlier failed. However, a subset of children gave incorrect answers to questions they had earlier answered correctly. Methods for studying children's developing theories of mind require further validation.

Plasma beta-endorphin, adrenocorticotropin hormone and cortisol in autism
Article Abstract:
Researchers compared measurements of adrenocorticotropin hormone (ACTH), beta-endorphin (BE), and cortisol in plasma from a group of autistic individuals, a group of people with cognitive impairments and a control group. The groups included children and adults. They found that the autistic group had significantly higher plasma levels of ACTH and BE. This finding indicates that autistic people have a strong response to acute stressors. It complements other research which indicated normal basal stress response functioning in autism.
