Testing for controlled variables
Article Abstract:
The control theory was discussed in the context of Ilan Golani's view of animal behavior. Golani believes that the purpose of animal behavior is more invariant than the means employed by the animals to execute the movements. Testing controlled variables can be undertaken by applying disturbed influences directly to the proposed controlled variable. Controlled variables can then be identified by their property of showing lesser variations than other movements easily affected by behavioral movements and acts.

S-O-R: wrong model for pointing
Article Abstract:
Martha Flanders et al's model to explain pointing behavior consist of a stimulus-organism-response (S-O-R) model without feedback. It was shown in an analysis that Flanders et al's model cannot account for simple pointing behavior under realistic conditions. It was also shown that the control-system model can justify pointing behavior and as thus, it was assumed that because of the failure of the SOR model, the speculations in Flanders et al's work are therefore not valid.

Description and explanation: a plea for plurality
Article Abstract:
Ilan Golani's approach in describing animal behavior and morphology was criticized as reductionistic, acontextual and inconvenient, to the point of being uninformative in many cases. The formation of general patterns of behavior prevents the use of descriptive detail which is oftentimes very important. It is perceived that plurality may be more informative than diverse interests which inform and motivate inquiries into animal movement.
