The influence of puberty, family processes, and leisure activities on the timing of first sexual experience
Article Abstract:
Researchers surveyed, in 1991, the timing of West and East German adolescents' first sexual experience in relation to other factors. They found that the average age of respondents' first sexual experience was 16.74 years, and that there was no relationship between either sex or nationality and the timing of the first sexual experience. Parental divorce was not a significant factor in predicting the timing of the first sexual experience in most cases, but the level of parental monitoring was significant in all cases except East German girls. Risky leisure activities were a significant predictor for all except West German males.
