The nonword reading deficit in developmental dyslexia: evidence from children learning to read German
Article Abstract:
Ten year old dyslexic children learning to read German show a higher reading accuracy for nonwords than dyslexic children learning to read English. However, older dyslexic children learning German show a deficit in the speed for nonwords as compared to younger nondyslexic children. This nonwords reading deficit is evident for nonwords that are both similar to and different from the existing German words. Dyslexic children learning German differ from those learning English only with respect to the expression of an underlying phonological impairment.

Pseudoname learning by German-speaking children with dyslexia: Evidence for a phonological learning deficit
Article Abstract:
The difficulty that dyslexic children have with learning new words was investigated. German-speaking dyslexic children showed impaired learning of new pseudonames in a range of visual and verbal learning tasks. The difficulties were linked to pseudoword-repetition and naming-speed deficits, and this may affect reading and spelling acquisition.

Developmental dyslexia in different languages: language-specific or universal?
Article Abstract:
A cross-language research was conducted to determine whether the causes underlying development dyslexia in English speaking countries could be applied to other European orthographies. The findings suggested that there was a common biological origin of dyslexia in different orthographies.
