The state of the Journal
Article Abstract:
The American Journal of Psychiatry introduced several editorial initiatives in 1996 to enhance content, educational interest and readability. These initiatives include Images in Psychiatry, Images in Neuroscience, In This Issue, Editorials and Clinical Case Conferences. The journal has also set up a home pace on the World Wide Web. What shape are we in? Gender, psychopathology, and the brain
Article Abstract:
Psychiatric studies on the sexes often emphasize the differences rather than similarities among men and women to gain more audience for their usually flawed, if not predictable, research. Psychiatrists have to base their findings on solid science and not promote sensationalistic findings that support, however unintentional, unfair social policy. There should also be careful interpretation of these findings especially regarding gender differences in disease prevalence, brain structure implications, and mental abilities.
