The use of the early memories procedure in a psychotherapy group of substance abusers
Article Abstract:
Cognitive-Perceptual personality theory postulates that memory selection and interpretation both reflects personality organization and influences contemporary attitudes and approaches to life. Richard's program for incarcerated substance abusers, a treatment program using this approach, is studied. Filling out Bruhn's Early Memories Procedure (EMP) is one module of this program and then discussing these memories in group therapy is studied. EMP allows people to access their issues more quickly than traditional psychotherapy models, leaving more time to resolve these issues. Richard's program is also one of the few intervention programs for inmates who really want to change.

Measuring conflict tactics in offender and nonoffender populations
Article Abstract:
Distributing offenders with the potential for being physically or psycholologically dangerous among various units in the correctional institution is important to maintaining a safe milieu, and the offense history is not always an adequate measure of the chances of such behavior. The Getting Along Scale, a self-rating scale developed in 1990, identifies both positive and negative coping strategies in conflict situations and could even be a diagnostic tool.

An evaluation of a group treatment program for incarcerated male batterers
Article Abstract:
A group therapy program seems to help incarcerated male batterers and one conducted at a prison in Ontario, Canada, met its goals of changing how offenders dealt with prison violence and in changing personality traits associated with violence. One important psychological outcome was the reduced defensiveness of participants, who also showed other symptoms of emotional growth.
