Using judgemental anchors to establish challenging self-set goals without jeopardizing commitment
Article Abstract:
Two experiments were conducted to determine the impact of anchored goals in the movement of selected goals. Goal difficulty increased despite the lack of any linked reduction in goal commitment. Task performance and self-efficacy increased by launching anchors for goals. Self-set goals are perceived to generate high levels of goal commitment because of their self-committing features. However, anchored goal is expected to gain better goal committment than the self-set anchored goal.

Divide and conquer? Effects of decomposition on the accuracy and calibration of subjective probability distributions
Article Abstract:
The divide and conquer principle can be applied to complex decisions. It involves breaking a problem down into its component parts, making the easier decisions and then making a programme of action for the whole problem. Research has shown that the divide and conquer principle may not be as foolproof as was anticipated. Separating the problem into component parts may not be the best way of making decisions, the research suggests.

The hard-easy effect in subjective probability calibration
Article Abstract:
Biased judgment, biased stimulus material selection, judgment or response errors and insufficient adjustment of response criteria have been used to explain the hard-easy effect in subjective probability judgments. However, it is shown that response criteria are the main cause of the hard-easy effect while the ecological model and the biased choice of stimulus material are incorrect explanations.
