Valuing psychological factors in the provision of assisted reproductive techniques using the economic instrument of willingness to pay
Article Abstract:
The willingness to pay measure was used as an evaluation construct to gauge the psychological aspects of consumers availing of the services of assisted reproductive techniques (ART). Consumers approaching the service with a positive attitude are shown to have higher willingness to pay indexes than those with negative attitudes. This attitude is governed by the regret and disappointment theories. The study showed that the interaction between consumer attitude and the cost per live birth measures are the best measures for the economic viability of the service.
