What factors predict student self-rated physical health?
Article Abstract:
A survey was conducted to identify the factors that influence self-rating of physical health among 840 Ontario adolescent students. Survey analysis focused on the demographic, economic, social, psychological and achievement factors that influence student perceptions of physical health. It was found that high income, good child-parent relationship, high academic performance, high self-esteem and not taking drugs, alcohol nor tobacco result in higher self-rating of physical health. In addition, it was found that female students generally rate themselves lower than male students.

Adolescent coping behavior when confronted with a friend with AIDS
Article Abstract:
A group of adolescents were presented with a hypothetical situation of a friend with AIDS to determine how they would deal with such situations. Adolescents employed a wide variety of coping mechanisms such as problem solving, emotional expression, cognitive restructuring and social support. Girls and distressed subjects chose more adaptive mechanisms than boys and non-distressed subjects. The results of this study could be utilized by health educators and counselors in dealing with adolescent cases of AIDS.
