Adolescence in modern Europe. Pluralized transition patterns and their implications for personal and social risks
Article Abstract:
Adolescence has been deemed as part of the life cycle since the Industrial Age. The growing gap between parents and their children during that time led to the acceptance of the concept of adolescence. It was during this era that young people who could no longer be considered as children but at the same time had not yet reached adulthood were observed to exhibit peculiar characteristics. The concept of adolescence had since changed by a significant degree since that time.

Girls' understanding and social constructions of menarche
Article Abstract:
A study of 87 Grade 6 Australian girls' attitudes indicated them to be poorly informed on aspects of growing up, as reflected in their feelings of embarrassment, discomfort and ambivalence toward their pubertal status. A majority of the girl students, ingrained with stereotypical beliefs of menstruation, used deception and denial as strategies to cope with their pubertal status.
