Code comfort
Article Abstract:
A separate feature showing seven Web page design products yielded an original design, plus six other designs showing how various products can duplicate the original. Three were created on a Macintosh and three on a Windows 95 PC. The editor planned to display all six reproductions, by taking a screen shot from a Web browser. Several minor difficulties arose in the process. First, all of the programs had inserted an AUTO attribute to the SCROLLING tag, which adds a scroll bar in the event of a frame break at the bottom of the screen. However, this was not part of the original design, and the HTML had to be edited to change the attribute to NO. Another problem arose when copying the Macintosh files to a PC. When this occurs, the system adds an exclamation point to the beginning of the file name, which rendered the HTML reference to the original files useless. Windows Explorer was used to edit the names.

Of media and messages
Article Abstract:
A magazine's attraction, and therefore total readership, is largely determined by its appearance. A magazine printed on glossy paper with rich graphics and color photographs takes full advantage of its medium, and indeed, offers all the advantages of paper-based publishing. At the same time, Web-based publishing faces the same sort of bias; some readers may dismiss a Web-based publication simply because it does not take full advantage of all of the latest innovations. While some view the Web as merely another avenue for distribution, others see it as a brand new medium, and tend to demand more from it; that is, to expect the Web publishers to do that which print publishers cannot.
