ExecuTable 1.0
Article Abstract:
ExecuStaff Composition Services' $129 ExecuTable 1.0 is a PageMaker plug-in used for setting up tables. Users must start by keying in the entire table text using word-processor style tabs. Although the program automates the runover process, when typing it in, the result is likely to look like a disorganized run of text. Because of this procedure, there is no way to adjust column widths and type specifications interactively. The text then has to be formatted with PageMaker style sheets, but only one style can be applied to an entire table row. ExecuTable is then opened from the Additions menu, and the column and gutter widths are then specified one column at a time. There is no WYSIWYG feedback, and all entries in a column must align in the same way. When the table is generated, ExecuTable converts the text into an array of individual PageMaker text blocks, making it difficult for further adjustments to be done.

Smooth sailing: Adobe's portable document format has the potential to eliminate the eddies, whirlpools, and logjams from your prepress workflow
Article Abstract:
Adobe System's Portable Document Format (PDF) holds the promise of a real workflow system with a standard, platform- and application-independent file format that is editable in all media and publications. The workflow mirrors practical division between production and creative teams, which has been ambiguous with other desktop tools. The technology will be put to best use in production departments, and at each phase each person can use tools created for them. Advantages, fringe benefits, ragged edges, and speculation as to what features the next version will include are discussed. There are a number of various publishing chores PDF can be used for, distribution of newspaper ads is currently the popular print application.
