Graphics cornucopia: VCN Concorde graphics program
Article Abstract:
VCN Concorde 2.0 ($695), a graphics program by Visual Communications Network, combines paint, chart, and draw features, as well as an image library, all in one package. The program can be used to create slide shows; it can combine graphics, including animated images, with sound. The Ventura Publisher from Xerox will only accept General Parametrics' Videoshow file formats from Concorde. Unfortunately, VCN Concorde 2.0 formats are not accepted by the PageMaker program from Aldus; consequently, bit-mapped graphics that are generated with the program's clip-art library or its paint module can not be imported by Ventura users. Top program features are not functional in a such a scenario - including the icon bar chart. VCN Concorde will not offer optimal desktop publishing performance until Pagemaker and Ventura Publisher can import its bit-mapped graphics.

Less for more: Graphics Gallery
Article Abstract:
Graphics Gallery is an awkward presentation graphics program from HP. It is divided into two programs, Charting Gallery and Drawing Gallery. Charting Gallery is used to create charts from Lotus 1-2-3 or Symphony data or from keyboard entries. Drawing Gallery enhances the charts and draws other images. The program requires several complicated steps to complete work, unlike competitive graphics programs. Users must, for instance, load separate programs to choose between line, bar and pie graphs. The program does come with the most extensive clip art file available - some 600 business symbols. In addition, industry specific files are available. The program is particularly useful for HP exclusive shops. However, at $695, the list price is well above competitive products.

Perfect graphics Partner?
Article Abstract:
WordPerfect Corp's DrawPerfect operates with WordPerfect 5.1, switching back and forth between programs using a single command. This is an excellent way to add graphics to presentations and WordPerfect documents. The program is flexible and easy to use, but not as powerful as other charting programs with drawing tools. The program contains 25 versatile fonts, including several rarely found in presentation packages. The color output is less than perfect and analytical graphics functions need improvement. Each slide is limited to 16 colors, from a palette of 256. The list price is $495.
