Helvetica: the people's choice
Article Abstract:
Helvetica is a sans serif typeface that has a clean, modern appearance that conveys precision and seriousness. Its best application is when both caps and lower-case are used in asymetrical text. Developed in 1957, Allied Linotype now owns the license. Helvetica is available on laser printers running Adobe Systems' PostScript page description language as well as those running the Document Description Language (DDL). Other printers may offer versions of Helvetica, an example of which is the "Helv" typeface on the Hewlett-Packard LaserJet laser printer.

Copyright: a designer's view
Article Abstract:
US law currently allows typefaces to be trademarked, thereby protecting their names, but not copyrighted to protect their designs. Legal protection is needed to safeguard variations in type design that display original artistry; this would benefit the creative arts as well as the public. Most type designers and manufacturers of related equipment favor such protection, while organizations that profit from typeface plagiarism, argue against it.
