Article Abstract:
Illustrators need to think of themselves as the authors and owners of thier works. While theoretically illustrators own their art, all too often they must sign contracts assigning their rights to their employer. They seldom discuss money among themselves, preferring philosophy, according to Guy Billout. House painters and photographers make more money. Competition arises from eager graduates are ready to work for any amount and from stock illustrations and their creators' archives.

Art Kane: image-making as a way of life; historical view
Article Abstract:
Artistic photographer Art Kane brings numerous assistants along when doing a photograph, and he makes numerous preparations. In the fifties he did interpretative portaits of models and stars. He was an award-winning if dictatorial art designer at 'Esquire' and 'Seventeen' magazines. He preferred assignments which offered him something new.

Pierre Bernard: staying true to the Frenchman in him
Article Abstract:
Pierre Bernard is one of the founders of the Grapus design collective. Several members of the collective wanted to use their work for political causes only while Bernard wanted to introduce social change through work for cultural facilities. The collective operated from 1970 to 1985 and members now operate on their own in the late 1990s.
