Images without anchors
Article Abstract:
Some graphic arts professionals espouse the theory that communication could take place through images alone, abandoning words. The precision of meaning needed to implement the theory is difficult to achieve, and the assumption is that all viewers will have achieved a high degreee of sophistication. Graphic designers have achieved a high level of communication through their images, but historically graphic design has included both words and pictures.

The self-centered focus of 1990s culture has had an effect on design. There is no interest in retaining a sense of history and learning from the mistakes of the past. There is a need for self-expression but many people refuse to take a position on an issue.
