Vorwerk carpets
Article Abstract:
German carpet manufacturer Vorwerk und Co created Dialog, a collection of carpets designed by artists, in 1988. Some of the artists who participated in the program include Sol Lewitt, Arata Isozaki, Roy Lichtenstein and Jean Nouvel. Designers are allowed a base color and only six additional colors to work with. They submit a colored scale drawing, and the design is imprinted on tufted nylon. Artists are not involved in the production of the carpet itself. The designs print well on the short, thin pile used in the Dialog collection. Specific artist's works are discussed and shown in photographs.
