Station identification: designers at E! Entertainment Television shape a brash identity from the desktop
Article Abstract:
The department of E! Entertainment Television network creative director Jill Taffet has created on-air computer graphics that have helped establish a distinctive and brash identity for the cable network. This is exemplified by E! designer David Sparrgrove's creation of a 30-second 'Tomorrow on E!' spot through the use of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. Taffet converted the department's design operation to Macintoshes for development of storyboards and type and to free up the design processes. Sparrgrove used Illustrator to develop the storyboard for Tomorrow on E! in the proper television aspect ratio, then combined all the scanned graphics and type elements into Photoshop. A networked Video F/X unit from Digital F/X was used to convert the finished Photoshop image into a file that could be read by the industry-standard Quantel Paintbox, where the final frames were assembled.

The search is on
Article Abstract:
There are many ways users can benefit from making use of a page layout's search-and-place feature beyond simply replacing a phrase or word in a document. For example, users can change a font style to italic or bold using a keyboard shortcut, which simply makes characters thicker or oblique and then use the search-and-replace feature to make the true font change throughout the document. In addition, search-and-replace is a good choice for changing the font of particular phrases or words. Users can utilize search-and-replace to use dingbats instead of round bullets to offset information, or they can utilize the feature to apply styles. Also, search-and-replace can make effective use of tab leaders or to apply numerical styles in a document.
