Poster Painter
Article Abstract:
LaserWare's $495 Laserpaint graphics, text, and layout program provides its users with a complete design system. Laserpaint features: a Drawing window, which can create smooth curves of any shape; a Painting window, for stencils and masks; a Goodies window, for refining angles and producing mirror images; a Laser window for printing files; and Your Own window, for selecting tools most frequently used, with a set up for customizing your own toolbox. Laserpaint is difficult to learn, unlike other Macintosh graphics. The manual is poorly organized and unhelpful. Laserpaint requires at least 1Mbyte for 300 dpi image-editing functions; even that might sometimes be not enough.

A form of frustration
Article Abstract:
Megaform 2.3, from Megahaus, combines features of a drawing program with those of a spreadsheet, allowing accounting and billing departments to do desktop publishing. The program produces customized forms, such as invoices, paychecks, and tax returns. The program, which promises the features of a drawing application and a spreadsheet, actually does not adequately fulfill the functions of either. The package, which requires 512Kbytes, costs $495.

Ready Set Go again
Article Abstract:
Letraset's Ready, Set, Go! Version 4 is an easy-to-learn Macintosh page makeup program that offers style sheets for text. It is well-suited for long publications with few layout variations. The programs limitations discourage its use in publications with more complex layouts. Problems also exist in using Ready, Set, Go! files with Linotronic phototypesetters. The package sells for $495 and owners of earlier releases can upgrade for $75.
