Web catalogs come of age
Article Abstract:
Pindar Systems' Catalog Management System is one of many new Web catalog production software packages on the market. The Pindar system is an integrated version of two stand-alone packages, a publishing tool for CD-ROMs and HTML output from Interactive Catalog Corporation (ICAT) and a relational database with a Pindar print publishing custom interface. The Pindar data base stores all the catalog information. Print catalog designers use Pindar's custom QuarkXPress interface to choose a formatted layout and then drag-and-drop product information from the database to the layout page. The program automatically formats product information and graphic inserts. Designers creating for CD-ROMs or the Web use the ICAT Electronic Commerce Toolkit to repurpose data from the Pindar database. This tool also handles the processing of all electronic customer orders.

More for your money: Microsoft word 5.0
Article Abstract:
Microsoft Word 5.0 is a significant upgrade with an improved spell checker, automatic repagination, built in network support, Show Layout and Print Preview features, and a new PostScript driver. Show Layout allows you to see an approximation of your document and Print Preview views text and graphics as they appear appears on full-page, two-page, or facing-page views. Graphics in many formats can be imported with Library Link and easily placed with new positioning controls. Library Link works with both text and graphics. Word 5.0 makes formatting easier; it simplifies mixing different column formats on one page and wrapping text around irregular graphics. Not only should current owners of Word be interested in this upgrade, but these improvements will make Word even more attractive to new buyers.
