An internal affair
Article Abstract:
UK real estate auctioneers are faced with a drop in turnover due to a crisis in the real estate industry. Internally generated business is thus becoming more important and this has brought about a change in attitude. Auctions are seen as a last resort and it is not always possible for auctioneers to persuade other departments to allow properties to be auctioned. Combining departments is one way of tackling this issue by eliminating the political obstacles.

Bristol market back in business
Article Abstract:
The office market in the centre of Bristol, England, had until recently been very weak. However, it is now beginning to revive, with London Life, Royal Bank of Scotland, Royal Mail and Lloyds TSB all having launched searches recently. The most recent large deal in the city was in Jan 1996, when Compuserve took 1,858 sq mt at a building owned by Scottish Widows. The new searches cover more than 9,290 sq mt of new space.

Auctioneers hold out for upturn
Article Abstract:
UK auction houses have reported poor sales so far in 1995, with the volume of commercial property sold in the first quarter of the year down by 23% from the year-earlier period. The average success rate is currently at 69%. The low sales volume is a reflection of developments in the private treaty market, where investors are not selling off attractive properties.
