Economic officials in the US and Canadian have taken steps to attract foreign investors. California, for instance, has passed measures aimed at reducing business taxes. Georgia is offering new incentives for using its ports while West Virginia will open a development office in Munich, Germany, in Jan 1999 to market its location benefits to various industries. In Canada, Saskatchewan has lowered taxes for manufacturing companies while New Brunswick is developing a workforce database to site seekers.

The details pertaining to the strategies adopted by the South Korean government to attract foreign direct investments for strategic growth industries, and to keep in pace with the competition from the Pacific Rim nations, are presented. Investments will increase once the nation develops free trade agreements with the United States of America.
