Called to accounts
Article Abstract:
It is important that surveyors are able to understand a potential tenant's accounts and any accountant's advice given. It may also be necessary for surveyors to assess the attractiveness of investment purchases and their related risks. Surveyors looking at a company's financial status, competitiveness and future prospects must take into account issues including gearing, profitability and liquidity/solvency. Care should taken to identify any cases of creative accounting.

Modernising archaeology
Article Abstract:
The UK government has issued two consultation papers detailing plans to modernise the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979. It hopes to be able to align archaeological protection with planning control, placing the burden of responsibility with local authorities. The focus of modernisation plans is on scheduled ancient monuments, where equivalent powers to those for listed buildings will be introduced.
