A landlord's control over assignments of leases
Article Abstract:
The UK government has encountered difficulties with plans to reform the law of privity of contract in leases. It is now publishing a consultation document which suggest that landlords opposed to the reform of the law relating to original tenant liability in all new leases will be appeased with a change in the law regulating assignment by tenants. This is the result of a compromise arranged by the British Retail Consortium, representing tenants, and the British Property Federation, representing landlords.
