Co-operation will save out cities
Article Abstract:
Public-private partnerships for UK urban renewal projects will work well when everyone is able to communicate freely with each other, to have the same access to data and have an equal say. Good partnerships can stand some differences of opinion as long as the communication channels remain open. The partnerships will work well if each sector is allowed to utilize their best skills and abilities. Urban renewal has involved the private sector much more over the last 20 years despite large sums of public funding being paid into projects.

Railroad to ruin
Article Abstract:
A case in construction law that occurred in 1873 still provides useful lessons for modern engineering contractors. The case, Sharpe v San Paulo Railway Co. (1873), centers on the contractor Sharp & Sons' reliance on information from English engineer James Brunlees in making a tender to build a railway to Sao Paolo. The engineer's certificate thus became a critical condition of the contract. Details of the case are presented.
