Computerization: development groups immerse themselves in the information age to deliver site-selection services
Article Abstract:
A survey of economic development organizations revealed that computerization has been adopted as a means to provide better on-site selection services and ensure the competitiveness of groups in today's rapidly changing environment. About 79 percent of respondents indicated that they had computerized databases. Industrial locations were the most common beneficiaries of automation. The survey also revealed that development groups vary in their investment-promotion and manpower budgets resulting in varying degrees and levels of service activities.

1991's top groups and top deals: with competition intensified, a winning hand was all in the numbers

The editors of Site Selection Magazine picked the top 10 economic development groups and deals for 1992 from among submitted nominations. The criteria for the selection process were the economic impact of the group and deal and the type of strategy employed by the group in winning major facility contracts. The top group was Broward Economic Development Council of Fort Lauderdale, Fla while the most outstanding deal was considered to have been made by Airco Industrial Gases of Terrell, TX.

Development groups go high tech in serving corporate clients
Article Abstract:
Conway Data's 1993 geo-economic survey of development organizations worldwide is presented. Results show that development groups are increasingly using technological systems to offer their clients faster service.Most development organizations' communities now offer financial incentives while clients are better informed and more sophisticated. Clients also expect development companies to exercise confidentiality in handling business and to de-emphasize company designations.
