Grand designs
Article Abstract:
Renovation work redesigning a Rennie Mackintosh building in the centre of Glasgow, Scotland, to make it a centre for architecture and design in Scotland has been successful. It will be known as the Lighthouse. Some developers have faced problems in Glasgow coping with the large number of listed buildings. The planning authorities are reluctant to allow architects a free hand due to the poor standard of buildings put up in the 1960s and 1970s. Glasgow is due to become the UK City of Architecture and Design for 1999.
