Delaware County, PA, is the multimodal center of the metro area with a deepwater port, three railroads and access to Philadelphia International Airport. Major infrastructure projects that would enhance its transportation prowess involve the widening of Route 291 and 322 within the decade. With its long history of diverse industrial activity, Delaware County's workforce is highly adaptable. Moreover, the strong education base of the community has resulted in a low unemployment rate. County officials are determined to market the area through aid programs to attract more manufacturers into the area.

Article Abstract:
Montgomery County, PA, recovered admirably from the loss of its steel and tire manufacturing plants. Other industries such as manufacturing automobile computer chips and chemicals took its place, strengthening the economic base of the area. Specific areas that did well are Conshohockens, which is also an Enterprise Zone, and Pottstown. Infrastructure projects to alleviate traffic congestion in the area are underway, together with efforts to attract industries by lessening bureaucratic impediments. Of interest is Montgomery's Triple A bond financial stability rating, the only one in the state.
