Divided by more than the border
Article Abstract:
Despite their proximity to Birmingham and their low unemployment rates, the counties of Shropshire and Staffordshire are very different in their approach to attracting inward investment. Shropshire has experienced a decade of high growth, with unemployment standing at 6.4%, below the national average, and has attracted several overseas manufacturers, mainly from Japan and Taiwan. Staffordshire is targeting investment from the US and has attracted 40 US-owned firms to the county.
