The increasing popularity of electronic commerce is providing opportunities for parcel carriers. However, only the most efficient and well-known will be successful, with newcomers likely to find it difficult to enter the market. Research from the US shows that 20% of parcels shipped in 1999 were sent by web retailers and it is forecast to exceed 50% by 2003.
