Good agents won't fear blackmail
Article Abstract:
The UK's Property Misdescriptions Act 1991 (PMA) gives estate agents clear duties, both individually and as employers. However, the aim of this legislation is merely good estate agency practice. Some observers have claimed that it is impossible to comply with the PMA, but there are in fact a number of ways in which a possible misdescription of a property can be avoided. Estate agents may be vulnerable to a complaint under this legislation, but this is not necessarily tantamount to blackmail. The existence of a formal complaints procedure protects estate agents, allowing them to show trading standards officers that the allegations have been taken seriously.
