Hands across the waterfront
Article Abstract:
A major development project is being planned for the Bristol Harbourside, Bristol, England, at a cost of 400 million pounds sterling. It will include visitors centres, a residential housing development, retail outlets and office buildings. Some local observers fear that any new office development may face competition from offices being constructed in the Temple Quay area. Some 41 million pounds sterling has been given to the project to build three public areas and centres for Science and the Performing Arts. The plans also include the construction of 700 new houses on part the 66 acre site.

Running the opposition
Article Abstract:
Infrastructural projects on the outskirts of Manchester, England, are increasing as a result of the proposed construction of a second runway at Manchester Airport. The possibility of increased business from the airport has encouraged speculative developers to construct two new business parks in the vicinity of the airport. Road transportation is likely to be made easier by the completion of the M60 road by 1999 and the construction of the new A34M in 2003. Environmental protesters are planning to demonstrate against the new airport runway which may delay its completion date.

A giant leap into space
Article Abstract:
A projected 1.2 million sq ft of new office space will have been completed in Nottingham, England during 1998 . Real estate agents are confident that the demand for the offices will come from large companies such as banking institutions. They suggest that the Nottingham area will be able to compete for new business on a national basis particularly as rents are likely to be cheaper than in similar cities. Some observers point out that there are too many projects underway and forecast that the supply of office space will exceed demand.
