Hants up for question time
Article Abstract:
Business people in Hampshire, England, were able to question a panel of experts on issues of concern at a meeting hosted by Hampshire Economic Partnership. Hampshire has been performing badly in the 1990s, with higher unemployment rates than the rest of the UK, and lower GDP per head than the rest of South-East England. The panel agreed that the county would benefit from improved vocational partnerships and IT training initiatives, and there was support for more action on transport issues, more decentralisation of planning, and membership of the EMU as aids to economic development.

Squaring up to the challenge
Article Abstract:
The proposed development of a Greater London Authority may cause some problems for the Corporation of London, particularly where their roles overlap. Officials in the Corporation welcome change and reiterate their willingness to work with the new Authority. Some observers have criticised the Corporation when dealing with planning matters, which can be over-complicated. The Corporation sees its major role as helping businesses stay in Central London, England. The Corporation is also a major property landlord in Central London.
